You would have to genetically engineer the next generations so they have no ways of reproducing outside of fabrication (A completely artificial robot pregnancy so to speak). And remove testosterone, estrogen and progesterone from their systems (and replacing them with a single hormone which wouldn’t react differently on the brain.

Firstly, we need to get rid of consumerism. Consumerism works by big companies exploiting our instincts and stereotypes to sell us stuff we probably don’t need. Watch a day’s worth of adverts and you’d get the following impression of women:
Women are deeply insecure about how they look.
Women are unable to get through the day without eating chocolate.
Good hair colour matters more than personality.
Gossip about celebrities is more important than politics.
Women think all men are inferior and stupid.
What makes women happy is a clean kitchen.
You’d also get the following advice as to how men should think about women:
Men should see women primarily as *** objects.
Women are prizes to be won.
Women can be bribed into liking you with expensive cars etc.
Men pretend to like commitment, and it is a weakness to identify with women or have strong feminine character traits.

Realistically, though, the only way I can see us having a genderless society in the near future would be to create a Stalinesque society where any sexist attitudes are reported to the police and offenders sent to the gulags. To entirely overcome the indoctrination of gender stereotypes into children we need to remove the instinct to create gender stereotypes in the first place – and this requires a serious re-wiring of the human brain. I was raised by a very feminist mother, and despite my best efforts I still find myself judging a woman on how pretty she is and how big her breats are.

Really, I quit cigarettes a few years ago – and stopping thinking about the most addictive drug known to mankind is easier than stopping trying to make attractive women like me by being all ‘manly’ around them.

To have a truly genderless society you need to ignore one gender over the other. You can accomplish this by claiming you are superior and imposing your ways over the Other – or by destroying the Other altogether. I mean, let’s face it, who are feminists kidding? Do women want to be men? Talk to any number of real women and you will quickly learn the answer is no. Do men want to be women? Talk to one sane male and you will quickly learn the answer is no.

Since we are different to expect either party to become the same as the other is pure lunacy. But – for a society to recognize those differences and assign social roles, status, and responsibilities based on those differences is not only extremely efficient – it is very prudent.

Break down the barriers of uneducated attitudes towards gender equality. Total respect would be very difficult to achieve in 100-200 years. It will take much longer for the illiterate losers to die out.

Artifical reproduction and then pretty much whatever we’re doing now. Most people in society are already more into the androgynous centre than extreme male or female ends. Even where people adopt traditional gender roles, they frame it as a personal choice (rather than an expectation) so I would say gender roles are already on their way out – the main difference now is that many women take maternity leave and then around half work part time afterwards – in my crazy sci-fi future neither parent carried the child for 9 months, so both would have an equal bond at ‘birth’ and men would be more likely to work part time – thus evening out the remaining differences

It takes suffrage and equal rights. After that, our behavior and rise above acculturations are up to the individual. Society cannot be universalized one way or another. It’s made up of individuals who make their own choices. The foundation of acculturated gender concepts, though, the Master / Slave neolithic paradigm, is waning as humanity increasingly transitions into democracy. Courtship behaviors, especially during adolescence, will probably continue to include transient fashionable cultural trends of gender notions, exploration and experimentation.
