The death of the “sense of community” in the american society

It is always the same sad story! A kid goes missing and then found dead!

Most of the time, it is a young girl. This time it is a Georgia girl. The partially covered body of Somer Thompson was found in a Georgia landfill near the Florida state line, after investigators followed garbage trucks leaving from the neighborhood where Somer Thompson disappeared.

I am so saddened and in disbelief. I cannot withstand the world we are living in. A girl gets abducted, tortured and probably ***** and then thrown in trash. What will the police reaction be? They will probably search the neighborhood, investigate the listed *** offenders and then may or may not catch the ANIMAL that killed this innocent Angel. This incident, however, will repeat itself and the only way to prevent it is by creating a well connected and supportive community where everybody knows everybody.

I have seen a very disturbing trend in our society. People are getting loaded and isolated. The “sense of community” has died. I have recently bought a house in the LA county area. When I bought my house, I exchanged few words with my neighbors and that was it. Needless to say that I don’t know my neighbors nor do they know me. So many times, I have felt lonely and needed help but I felt too awkward to go out and ask for it. I am sure that some people are kind but I am also sure that they are fearful of strangers.

The main problem of our society nowadays is overworking. Families are trying to barely survive while living a hectic schedule. People and especially women don’t have any time to socialize. By putting both genders at work and overworking, the social net and the social support system have been strained and dismantled. The hectic life schedule leads to less oversight of the kids’ welfare and their associated safety. The animosity created in the neighborhood through the fear of the strangers as well as the fear of being sued, make people less willing to help and give the criminals a wider margin of freedom.

We should revive this feeling of belonging to a safe community. Being active in your church or religious group is not enough. You should get out and get your neighborhood community active again. You should not be fearful of the criminals and the vulture-lawyers. You should help and volunteer. Get out and start today …
