was the society in the book 1984 capitalistic? What are some evidence?
I felt that it wasnt really a capitalistic society because a capitalist society would have way more freedom than the society in 1984.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

No it wasn’t a capitalistic society. It was totalitarianism. You’re right, capitalism is about freedom. the evidence that it’s not capitalistic is that they have no freedom, the thought police, vaporisisation etc..

Huh? Like asking was Darwin a great supporter of the Genesis creation theory.
Of course it wasn’t capitalistic. Why are the schoolbooks full of fat evil capitalists who used to rule before? The Party had overthrown capitalism.

You’re right. It can’t be a capitalist society because the people have no freedom in 1984. The type of government presnt in 1984 is called a totalitarianism or a dictatorship. The government controls everything that they can control, even people’s thoughts. NO FREEDOM!
1984 is one of my favourite novels of all time. Thank you Mr. Orwell for such a beautifully written piece of work.
