What do you see as a threat to individual safety and security in today’s society?

According to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, after our physiological needs are met (i.e., food, water, shelter, etc.), people identify safety and security needs as a priority. What do you see as a significant threat to individual safety and security in today’s society and what can students do to alleviate such problems?
