I saw this in an article some time back. In this society in India, the woman is the head of the family. The children take her name and she recieves the inheritance and runs the affairs of the whole family, including supporting her parents and single brothers. I need the name and more information about them for my paper. Anthropologists and Indians please help.

Hi, right now I’m finishing up my MIT application and I need some help with my last essay. I have to create an idea/concept so I decided to create a theory regarding the most puzzling question to society today. The problem is that I can’t think of a good question to answer. Could somebody help me out? I know you guys will think of some good stuff. (The question does not need to be serious, it could be something like “why do socks seem to magically disappear?”)

I have an anthropology midterm this week, and I’m struggling most with these concepts, and the differences between them.

I know the basics, cultures are within society, and there can be multiple cultures in any society. But does anyone know of a good way to understand and remember what societies and cultures are? because I’m really stuck. i just have a hard time differentiating between the two. thanks!

Say the planet wasn’t doomed and humans existed on earth forever, living similarly to the way we do now. Which animal (s) do you think would eventually evolve and take place in human society in some form? To an extent rats and pigeons etc do have as they live in cities but I mean actually developing communication skills etc?
Diego I don’t think any animals, even apes, can evolve exactly as humans have with opposable thumbs and ‘voicebox’ necessary for complex speech patterns. Animals have fairly complicated means of communication anyway, that has been proven, it is more a question of how we can understand and interract better with them

In the past, having a useful attribute increased your chance of surviving, whereas in modern society, it increased your chance of having a better life.

For example, being strong or being smart in the past meant there was more likelihood you could survive, whereas in modern society weak members of society are protected and everyone has equal opportunity to mate.
