What about religion is bad for society in general?

I’m doing a debate in school about religion and atheism. I have listened to a few speeches from others and numerous atheists have said they believe religion is bad for society. But none of the speeches I have witnessed have said in what way it is bad, or in what way it holds us back. One of them mentioned that it holds us back technologically, but nothing else. Can anybody tell me what other ways religion may be bad for society?

How do you reach the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society without requesting a study?

I have a number of questions regarding the manner in which a matter has been handled by my former husband’s body of elders. My body of elders are supportive of the Bible’s view — his is playing the “good ole boy” game, and are taking sides with him. I am advised to write the Society but don’t have their e-mail address. The “contact us” feature on their official site is to request a Bible study.

Does a Christian fundo who thinks homosexuality will cause society to collapse want to explain why?

A tiny minority of people are hardly going to cause society to collapse. In fact religion holding back society is more likely to. Is this just your way of masking your bigoted homophobic views?

Since prayers work and have real value to society, should we make financial instruments for trading prayers?

If Prayers work , they bring real value to society. So it would make sense to trade them in the open market and help channel prayers to most needed causes right? Should we make Prayer calls and puts?
All proceeds will then go BACK TO great causes. A win win situation right? Christians you agree?
